Contactless payments fuelled by fast food

A third of cardholders paid remotely for food in the last quarter of 2011, according to Visa.
Although low acceptance by retailers has been a barrier to everyday usage of contactless payment becoming a habit, the roll-out of new technology in McDonald’s in the UK has led to a surge in contactless payments for fast food. A third of cardholders used the system to pay for food in the last three months of 2011, compared to 12% the previous quarter.
