Announcing the Beyond Analysis charity of the year 2012
Posted by 5th January 2012
Here at Beyond Analysis, we like nothing better than seeing a new entrant to a crowded marketplace take on the big boys with amazing results.
The ability to make a significant impact in a short period of time mirrors our own story; which is one of the reason why we’ve chosen Rett Syndrome Research Trust UK as our 2012 Charity of the Year .
Rett Syndrome is a devastating childhood neurological disorder for which there is no cure. The condition first strikes previously healthy little girls between the ages of 6-36 months and robs them of their speech, normal movement and the ability to use their hands. Although many girls live into adulthood, all are at increased risk of sudden, unexplained death.
But despite this negative clinical prognosis, researchers at the University of Edinburgh have already demonstrated that Rett Syndrome is a potentially reversible disorder.
Rett Syndrome Research Trust UK was formed by a small group of parents of daughters with the condition. The charity has a sole purpose; to speed the time it takes to translate these spectacular laboratory developments into treatments and cures for all girls and women living with Rett Syndrome today.
Since its inception in July 2010, the charity has delivered in excess of £250,000 to a strategic research portfolio, including an extensive screen of FDA approved drugs, two gene therapy projects and an experiment looking at bone marrow transplants as a potential therapeutic. This was an extraordinarily successful first year, which rightly culminated in the charity being named ‘Best New Charity’ in the Charity Times Awards 2011.
In less than 18 months since its inception, the charity has grown from a grassroots effort run from one parent’s kitchen table to a national charity with hundreds of fundraisers and supporters. Incredibly, it has a projected income of £500,000 in the next financial year.
Now that’s what we call market entry!
